The recovery tools wanted $89 to save my daughters photos, so I built my own app

He deleted his daughters photos from an SD card, and every Mac recovery tool he found would scan for free but charged $89 a year or $130 to $200 to actually save anything. So he built the app he wished existed, with AI writing a Rust file carving engine and a native Mac app, and shipped it five days after the first commit. It is now a paid app of its own, $29 once, no subscription.

My agent writes alt text for my photos before I post them

He is a photographer who found typing alt text for every photo slow going. He built a small agent on his own n8n server: he sends a photo through an Apple shortcut, the agent reads the picture with a local Qwen model, adds the camera data, and saves the finished alt text in an Obsidian note, ten photos at a time.

The AI redid my blog. I never opened the site editor.

Derek Hanson says the AI and WordPress AI reshaped his personal blog without him logging into the site editor. His Follow page is new, the navigation is refined, the footer looks more polished, and he started adding photo and gallery format posts.

My agent makes my office football pool picks every week

Commenting on the Top 20 post, he says he is in an office football pool where you rank games by how sure you are of the outcome, and he kept forgetting his picks and found it a chore. He gave the AI his login and they worked out rules together: The AI makes his picks each week based on Vegas point spreads and analyst information. The pool site has an awkward interface, and he says the AI handled it well.

GPT scans his computer for new security flaws and patches it

He gave GPT a security audit skill that checks his machine against newly published vulnerabilities, patches what it can, and warns him about the rest. He runs it whenever new CVEs land, and says the patches need care because a fix can cause as much trouble as the flaw.

HobbiesWent wrong

The AI followed a shortcut into the wrong place and deleted his whole D drive

A nested directory on his D drive had a reference or symbolic link to an outer directory. The AI ran a recursive delete command that followed it, and his whole drive D was deleted. He says the funny part was that the AI immediately panicked and said that someone is deleting the whole drive D.
