A couple filed their own taxes - his simple, hers split between employment and freelancing. The AI made sense of the Excel spreadsheet their accountant sent and translated it into exactly what the tax portal expected, beating the tax advisor they hired two years earlier, who had made a significant mistake.
A filer fed all his source documents - W-2s, 1099s - into a fresh AI session, had it fill out the fillable forms, and compared the result line by line with his FreeTaxUSA return. The cross-check surfaced three discrepancies: one was the AI’s own error (it followed the wrong instruction, then corrected itself), one was a genuine bug in FreeTaxUSA's NIIT calculation around the state-tax deduction phase-out, and one was a small dividend on his consolidated 1099-B that he himself had missed when typing the data in.
This only partly worked. Worth knowing before you try it.
The Verge's Emma Roth linked her Amazon account and asked the AI to pick workout tops by size, style and color. Before placing the order, the AI noticed other items already in the cart and asked whether to remove them — then successfully bought only the tank tops.
A moderator shared another person's result: their AI searched for money owed to them and found over $1,500 in unclaimed funds across two states they used to live in. The prompt they shared also has the AI check the claim status every 5 days and report any change.
The AI found the lowest-price detergent on Coupang and added it to the user's cart, and separately set a fare-drop alert for a trip the user is watching.
A young woman in Los Angeles upgrading her home electronics lab used AI's 'Chef' agent to find a soldering station under $200 on Marketplace, compare five specific models, have the agent message sellers directly, and negotiate the price down $50 before she picked up the Hakko FX-888D, unboxed and assembled it on camera.
Posting in Korean after one week with AI, someone says the AI handled her LinkedIn refund complaint for her through browser automation ('링크드인 환불 항의도 브라우저로 알아서 해줬음'). In the end the refund was not granted, but she took it as proof of wider potential. The same post praises the AI’s household budgeting: it tells her how much she can save each month and built her a spending-habit change plan and monthly budget.
This one went wrong. See what happened before you try it.
A trader gave the AI the Form 8949 his CPA had prepared from his trade spreadsheet; the AI found a number of errors in the professional's own work and generated a corrected form, which he sent back to the CPA.
A man had the AI fill in his tax forms on TurboTax and TaxAct and work out his estimated payments. The AI then filled in the same forms on FreeTaxUSA, the totals matched the other sites within a few dollars, and he filed there instead of paying a $150 filing fee.
