For an upcoming two-night stay in New York City, the AI checks IHG, Hyatt and Marriott every day across cash rates, corporate rates and points, calculates points-versus-cash redemption values, and alerts him when his price drops or another nearby hotel of interest opens up.
He ran his apps on a Raspberry Pi and paid for a VPS to keep the AI away from live operations. The AI worked out the spec for a PC that could run two virtual machines, researched eBay and found a good deal, and he followed its instructions, mostly by pasting commands on his phone, to set up both machines and move everything over.
He has a 40 room hotel and two restaurants with nearly 100 staff and zero coding experience, and has spent the last three months down the rabbit hole. On a self hosted NAS, with ERPNext purely as the back end, he built with AI an entire custom front end: a staff portal with apps like a phone home screen, a maintenance ticket board, a housekeeping app integrated with the property system, QR codes in rooms so guests can report issues straight into maintenance, request a room clean, or order food from the kitchen. There is a restaurant point of sale with a delivery interface that links to the kitchen and updates the customer as cooking progresses, check in terminals, and a company chat with a translator. Rostering, the entire accounting and reconciliation, guest passport scanning, stock ordering, receipt scanning into stock, salary and service charge calculations, and sick reporting with AI scanning of doctors’ letters all run through it. Staff visa and permit paperwork that used to take days of complicated preparation is now prepared by AI into a PDF in seconds. About 140,000 lines of unique code, not counting ERPNext.
Fable built him a tiny, fast text editor in about 2 days that he uses as his primary editor, plus a key-bound note-taking interface in his Notes folder.
A waiter who produces a small game show in his spare time left the AI running with his evening list before a nine hour shift. He came back to 14 merged pull requests, just under 5,000 passing tests, two production promotions, and the first full episode his pipeline has ever cut end to end, queued for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok with a cover, title and chapters. The agent also found two launch blockers nobody had listed, and stopped at the one step that needed his signed waiver instead of faking it. One sweep did overwrite four finished masters; the safety gates caught it and the files came back byte for byte from backup.
He let his daughter chat out loud with AI to make a game, and the AI gave her small kid sized coding lessons along the way. They put the game on his Raspberry Pi box with an Arduino joystick, so she can play it whenever she wants.
The AI took the raw JSON vote files and, using the state's own rules for overvotes, skips and duplicate votes, built the full preference schedule for a US House race. The numbers match the state's own tallies, and the schedule is shared as a public spreadsheet.
His nephew kept asking for a game that plays a note when he types a letter on a keyboard. He used AI to build it and put it online, and his nephew loved it.
Over a month he uploaded his investment statements and 24 months of budget data from Monarch Money, and the AI built a full retirement plan and retirement budget. It keeps seven documents up to date in one folder, with action items in priority order. When his financial planner delivers his own plan in December, he plans to feed it in and have the AI compare the two.
