My Raspberry Pi the AI desk buddy never even got on Wi-Fi

The same builder tried the other half of Meta's kit, a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W that was meant to become a battery powered voice announcer. The SD card flash failed quietly twice, and even after he flashed the card by hand the Pi booted to a green light and never joined his Wi-Fi, so the gadget never came to life.

This one went wrong. Read what happened so you don’t hit the same problem.

How it works

  1. Download Raspberry Pi OS Lite and check the file
  2. Try to flash the SD card with the Mac tool, which fails quietly twice
  3. Flash the card by hand with dd
  4. Fix the config file so the USB setting sits in the right section
  5. Boot the Pi and check for Wi-Fi and USB
  6. Neither shows up, and it is still sitting there with a solid green light

Why it’s worth knowing

The cheap ESP32 board he was scared of worked first try. The Pi, the part everyone calls easy, is the one that beat him.
